José Luis Marín Aranda presenta su primera novela después de haber publicado varios libros de poesía. Se trata de un libro singular en el que el escritor desarrolla quince relatos encadenados, cuya trama discurre con las reflexiones de los dos protagonistas, un monje trapense octogenario y un profesor malagueño en la década de los cuarenta, que están haciendo juntos el Camino de Santiago. Por otra parte, dieciséis amigos que se han conocido en el tiempo mantienen entre todos ellos la unión y la armonía de inicio, bajo el nombre de “Los Seteros”, siendo por lo tanto la amistad la principal motivación que ha tenido el autor para escribir este libro. Marín Aranda ha querido hacer un relato novelado con una estructura al estilo del Decamerón, Los cuentos de Canterbury o El Conde Lucanor, con la técnica de “cajas chinas”. Los relatos, al mismo tiempo que se cuenta quiénes eran “Los Seteros”, son episodios de la historia de España que por su interés debieran recordarse siempre. Otro tema diferencial en esta novela es que algunas de las historias que se cuentan no quedan cerradas, sino con finales abiertos y distintas conclusiones. También se da la mezcla del pasado, con el presente y el futuro, pues su acción está situada en el año 2048. Por otra parte, asociados a los relatos históricos e imbricados en ellos, está la ficción con unos cuentos referidos a diversas cuestiones de la naturaleza humana: la venganza, la envidia, la incultura, la fobia, la codicia, el sexo, la constancia, el esfuerzo, la suerte, el azar, el miedo, la investigación, y otros muchos temas poderosos que harán disfrutar a los lectores y les dejará motivos para la reflexión.
