En el segundo poemario El patio amarillo, Luis Alberto de Cuenca (premio nacional de poesía, en España), en su prólogo comenta entre otras cosas: “Marín Aranda (seudónimo del poeta gaditano José Luis López Jiménez), tiene un dominio del verso castellano y de la métrica española digno de subrayarse. La gente ha ido perdiendo el oído con el “todo vale” de la post-vanguardia y ha olvidado que tradición y modernidad no tienen por qué ser términos contradictorios.”
“Marín Aranda es, además, pintor, y enriquece su patio de palabras con unos amables dibujos que contribuyen a fijar las imágenes plásticas que emanan de sus propios poemas. En este nuevo libro no hay tanta presencia del soneto y de la décima como en el anterior, pero no se descuida en ningún momento la música del verso, que se ofrece al lector en su envoltura rítmica y sentimental (hay mucho sentimiento, mucha estética del recuerdo, mucha memoria íntima en El patio amarillo).”
